Kratom strains are usually divided up by their color. The effects of different strains are not always predictable, but the main three are red, green and white. Kratom leaves have traditionally been classified into two types - red veins and green veins. Sometimes this is simply just narrowed down to "thai" or "borneo." However, for most, this is not enough.
Red veins are sedating and help with pain relief - both physical and mental. The effects of red vein tend to come on slower than the other strains and some think it's harder to gauge what dose is right for them, but they often give a more consistent experience compared with the other strains.
Just like their name, green veins are typically described as being more stimulating or balanced between the sedating and energetic effects of the different types of kratom. The effects are felt quickly, but not strongly - they're often described as producing a strong sense of relaxation without causing drowsiness. Green veins tend to be best for daytime use because they can still give pain relief while being very functional.
The effects of white vein kratom are similar to green vein, but more energetic and on the "upper" side. They do not have any sedating properties at all - they tend to be stimulating/energetic and some consider them to be the most "social" of all the strains as they produce a sense of euphoria.
Kratom has many different strains that are often classified due to their color or location of origin - red veins, green vein, white vein, thai and borneo being the most common. These veins contain alkaloids said to provide different, often nuanced effects.
Thai strains tend to be some of the most stimulating kratom - they are energetic and some say they produce a strong sense of euphoria. Some people find them great for concentration, while others find the opposite. Thai is great during the day because it's still very functional, but can make you feel like you are "on top of the world." My favorite kratom product from SOL Botanicals is the Royal Red Thai.
The effects of borneo are similar to that of red vein kratom. They are sedating and help with pain relief both physical and mental. This strain is great for nighttime use because the effects will come on slower than the other strains, but tend to last longer. Malaysian is a mix between red vein kratom and borneo - the effects are somewhat in between both of them. They are slightly more energizing than red vein, but not as much as thai. Therefore, this strain tends to be great for all around use.
Thai, borneo and malaysian are some of the most popular strains for this reason - they offer the best of both worlds in terms of sedating/energetic effects without any significant drawbacks. Just like green vein kratom, white vein is more energetic than red veins but less than thai - making it great for daytime use.
White vein kratom tend to be more stimulating than green veins, but not as much as thai - making it great for day or night use. Green veins are usually the best all around strain of kratom and work well for both pain relief and general functionality.
Of course the effects of each strain will be different for every person and depend on the dosage and preparation method. The best way to find which kratom color is right for you is to try them all! If you want something more sedating, go with thai/borneo/malaysian - if you want something stimulating, green or white veins are probably your best bet.
It's also important to note that kratom works differently for everyone - what works for you might not work well for someone else and vice versa. It can be helpful to research the effects of each strain so you have an idea of what you're looking for, but don't get too stuck on it - try everything! Many kratom users find that they enjoy multiple types of kratom, not just one specific strain.
If you are looking for a more consistent experience, however, green veins are the way to go - they tend to be similar from brand to brand because they are often naturally occurring veins in the leaves of the plant. Each type of kratom will have a slightly different price. As you'll see when searching, they are usually sold by the ounce or in ten packs for a reduced rate per ounce.
Try to do some research on what each color kratom is known for and try them all out! Experiment with dosage, preparation methods and find which strain works best for your desired outcome. Head to our shop and select your desired kratom effect.
